Dragon Invasion: a hellish portal opens every 7 hours
The Dragon Invasion is here, inspired by the classic MU event. Every 7 hours a dragon attacks one of the three starter fields: Aurora Fields, Fairy Woods (in Noria) or Devias Fields. The colors alternate — a Red Dragon, then a Golden Dragon — and the same field never gets two invasions in a row. Since 7 hours do not divide a day evenly, the time shifts each round: over a week the invasion visits every hour of the day. The Brazil and USA servers share the same times and colors; the field under attack may differ on each.
Five minutes before, every player on the server gets the warning, on any map: a message on screen, a System chat line saying that a hellish portal is about to open and a banner at the top of the screen counting down to the opening. In the atlas (M key), the attacked field shows a Dragon! badge; between events, the atlas shows how long until the next dragon and its color.
At the set time, a hellish portal opens on the ground in the open field, away from the town, the portals and the NPCs: a turning ring of red and black runes, lava cracks, embers, smoke and a pulse of red light. From that moment the minimap marks the spot and the atlas badge changes to Dragon Portal, so everyone knows where to go. The banner shows how long until the dragon comes out.
While the portal opens, for about 27 seconds, it hurls fireballs near the heroes on the field. A circle on the ground marks where each one will land shortly before impact. Anyone inside loses 6% of maximum HP, but the rain never knocks anyone out: HP never drops below 1. Safe zones are spared from the rain, and it does not harm monsters.
Then the dragon rises out of the portal through dark smoke and lets out a roar that shakes the ground. During those 3 seconds nobody attacks or gets attacked. Right after, 5 escort dragonlings come out of the portal: Crimson Dragonlings with the Red Dragon and Emerald Dragonlings with the Golden one. None of them respawn. The portal then closes and leaves a burnt mark on the ground that fades after about a minute.
The dragon breathes fire, shakes the ground and calls down meteors; below 30% health it becomes furious. You have up to 30 minutes to defeat it. If time runs out, a portal opens where it stands, the dragon sinks back into it and the invasion ends.
How to prepare: the Red Dragon is level 55 and the Golden Dragon level 65; Crimson Dragonlings are level 50 and Emerald Dragonlings level 62. Heroes well below the dragon's level miss more often, deal little damage and take heavier hits. Go as a group, bring potions and step out of the fire circles. Low-level characters should stay away from the portal, because the dragon's and the escort's attacks hit hard.
The reward follows the boss rules the game already has. Everyone who fought earns experience, and the ground fills with Zen, Blessing, Soul and Chaos Jewels, magic and rare equipment and Boxes of Kundun +1, with a chance of a unique item (Ring of Eternity, Dark Sovereign's Scepter, Aurora Wand or Claws of the Abyss). The Red Dragon leaves 1 or 2 Boxes of Kundun +1 and may leave a Horse Spirit; the Golden Dragon leaves 3 to 5 Boxes of Kundun +1 and has a small chance to drop an excellent piece of equipment. Dragonlings drop common monster rewards. As with any monster, whatever falls is free for any player to pick up.
When the dragon falls, a server-wide message names the leader of the group that dealt the most damage. A defeated dragon does not return during the same invasion, even if the server restarts. The event's texts are available in Portuguese, English and Spanish.
This article's images are actual captures of local demonstrations, with high-level fictional heroes and the event clock moved forward only for the recording. That is why the fights in the images are short, some flee countdowns are shorter than the game's 30 minutes and the return to the portal shown was triggered before time ran out. The captures show the Portuguese interface.
